It’s June 1st and time for another BookBanter Boon and a new book giveaway, and this one’s a pretty cool and special one.
To tie in with the release of Deadline by Mira Grant, the sequel to Feed, as well as the new interview with her up on BookBanter, I will be giving away to one lucky winner A SIGNED COPY OF DEADLINE!
Mira Grant is the pseudonym of New York Times bestselling author Seanan McGuire. She is the author of the Newsflesh Trilogy, the first two books of which have been released, with Feed and Deadline. Seanan McGuire was first interviewed on BookBanter on September 1st, 2009; you can listen to it here. Mira Grant was first interviewed on BookBanter in April of 2010; you can read the interview here .
In the interview, Grant talks about how she goes about doing research, how she and Seanan McGuire get along, what else Mcguire is working on, and some very important final words. You can read the interview here.
Here are the basic rules:
- Anyone in the US can enter.
- To enter simply leave a comment on this post. The question for you for this BookBanter Boon is where will you be hiding out (reading Deadline, of course) when the rising happens?
- Entries will be accepted from June 1st until 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on June 14th.
- The winner will be randomly chosen, contacted, and announced on this post on June 15th.
If you have any questions, please email me at alex@bookbanter.net.

I will be on my two bedroom motor cruiser (boat). Fully loaded with food, guns, ammo, and fuel!
Thanks for the opportunity! Just finished Deadline and now I’m already going nuts for the next one. (That ending was SO mean…LOL)
Cant wait to get my hands on this book.
I’ll be in my van listening to the audio version of Deadline. Same place I was when listening to Feed a while ago.
I will be at home in my den snuggled up with a good book or doing my crossword puzzles.
I will be in some remote part of Michigan’s UP on the Superior shoreline…leaving a little extra room in my pack for my favorite new book.
I love these books! Shaun Mason reminds me of my best friend. I can’t wait for the third one to come out!
I will be barricaded in my local Sysco Food Services warehouse
i will be sitting in my home, windows an door boarded up and stairs destroyed full stocked, waiting on the mass panic to die down before heading to a military base to stay while things calm down a little more and restock supplies then off to Canada to survive
I will be sitting in the abandoned Military base down the road from where I live. Easy access to the warehouses nearby to raid for anything that me and my family will need.
I loved the first book Feed. I bought it the day it was released. I have been waiting to long for this one. I must put it with my Zombie collection. Thanks for everything.
When the Rising begins, I’ll either be at the range tightening my groups, or welding armor plates to my lovingly-named Jeep “Garcia”. .
For me? To be realistic here..
I’ll either be at home, on my family’s farm, surrounded by dogs and cows and other things more than large enough to undergo viral amplification. At college, surrounded by fellow students who could well get bitten and amplify, with no weapons to hand…
Or, if there’s warning.. I’ll be at a friend’s house who’s nearby.. Their place is more easily defended, and, they have *lots* of guns and other suitable weaponry.
The only problem would be the food… But.. Ehh, I’d finish the book first.
I’ll probably be walking around the college campus. There would be trees and complete silence except for the chirping of birds all around me. If a “zombie” pops up, I’ll probably think some dorm house is playing Humans vs. Zombies (HvZ) and play along.
I would bombard a Walmart and set up shop there. I would at least have supplies for some time. It has just about everything you need! They even sell shotguns and ammo!! Pharmacy if you get the right one
Furniture, appliances, cultivate plants and vegetables….really for the win.
I’d love to win!! I absolutely adore this series

Well I don’t know if hiding out would give me the best chance of survival. So I think I would try to get a car and stick to driving in the most rural areas. Then I could raid stores and houses on the move and do my best to prevent being surrounded by death. Whereas if I held up somewhere there is always the chance my defenses would be surrounded and overtaken.
