05/04 On the Bookshelf . . . “Ark” & “What if the Earth Had Two Moons”

Received two books for review for the Sacramento Book Review, which both look very interesting.

What I consider “discovery science fiction” has always intrigued me: scientists starting from scratch and sending people and a spaceship to a completely new planet, in the style of Allen Steele’s Coyote series.  Wasn’t aware, however, that this was the second in the series, so will need to get my hands on Flood first.

What if the Earth Had Two Moons

And this just seems right up my alley: What if the Earth Had Two Moons: And Nine Other Thought-Provoking Speculations on the Solar System.  It’s the sort of book that is both fascinating to read for its ideas from a scientific standpoint, as well as imaginative from a writer’s standpoint.
