BookBanter Boon #7: “The Wise Man’s Fear” by Patrick Rothfuss

BookBanter Boon #7

Wise Man's Fear

Okay: the Patrick Rothfuss interview is up, and the review for The Wise Man’s Fear is up, so therefore it seems like the perfect time for the next BookBanter Boon.  This time I’ll be giving away an advance reader copy of The Wise Man’s Fear.  What’s interesting about the ARC of The Wise Man’s Fear is that there are 1109 pages, while the print version has 1008 pages.  What’s in those extra pages?  Who knows.  But the randomly-drawn lucky winner will get to find out.

Here are the basic rules:

  1. Anyone in the US can enter.
  2. To enter simply leave a comment on this post.  The question for you for this BookBanter Boon is one I ask Pat himself: if you could live anywhere in the Four Corners of Civilization (the world of the Kingkiller Chronicles) and could do whatever you want: where would you live and what would you do?
  3. Entries will be accepted from March 2nd until 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time on March 14th.
  4. The winner will be randomly chosen, contacted, and announced on this post on March 15th.

If you have any questions, please email me at

  1. I think I would be a long-lived otak and live in Denna’s pocket, so I would see
the action from a different angle.

  2. A truly tough choice…. I still no so little about a large part of this world. Atur is compelling to me for many reasons but the Fae world intrigues me as well. Yes I think being an Amyr Knight would be the best.

  3. If I could live anywhere in the four corners of civilization in the Kingkiller chronicles, it would have to be in the University as we still do not know enough about the other worlds to live there. As much as I would love to live with the faerie, I would not want to find that I was walking into a half demon / half amazing place as we all know is from Bast who said there are many facets of his world. I would read through the archives, master everything I could and seek to find why their old world had ended and how to prevent it.

  4. I would live in the University. And then I would go in the archives and set them on fire just to piss off Lorren. Because eff that guy.

  5. Yll. No question. A language written in knots is intriguing and being near all the action but hanging out with goats surrounded by ocean is exactly perfect.
