BookBanter Holiday Gift Book Guide for 2011

BookBanter Holiday Gift Book Guide 2011

It’s time for the first (and hopefully annual) BookBanter Holiday Gift Book Guide, and for 2011 I’ve got a whole bunch of recommended titles to give you plenty of options when you’re looking for the perfect book for that hard to buy for family member or friend who just likes “mysteries” or something new to do with Star Wars. 2011 was a pretty great year for some great releases from big authors.

Below are a few samples from the gift guide. To see the full guide, click HERE.

11/22/63

11/22/63 by Stephen King (Scribner, $35)

Stephen King tackles an element he hasn’t really touched before in his new novel: time travel. The main character is sent back to 1963 to stop the Kennedy assassination, only he arrives a lot earlier and has to live in the fifties for a while. 11/22/63 is more of a fascinating work of historical fiction as King outdoes himself with the research, enveloping the reader in the complete feel of the period, showing just how different it is to our modern world.

Micro

Micro by Michael Crichton and Richard Preston (Harper, $28.99)

In Crichton’s posthumous novel (finished by Richard Preston) readers enter a world where people can be shrunk down to the size of insects, just inches tall. The writers have fun putting their characters in these situations, but with a greedy CEO looking to stop at nothing to become superrich, their lives are now in danger.

Bossypants

Bossypants by Tina Fey (Reagan Arthur, $26.99)

The book by the talented Tina Fey has been a runaway bestseller since it was published, and is the perfect gift for anyone who likes her, SNL or 30 Rock, or talented women writers and actresses, as Fey provides many entertaining stories and tidbits about her life so far.

Inmate #1577

Inmate #1577 by Alan Jacobson (Kindle, $9.99)

This is the tale of two stories: one that of a man who ends up on the wrong side of the law that eventually takes him to Alcatraz, told in the 1950s; and the story of the present day, where there is a serial killer on the loose in San Francisco, the bodies are piling up, and the FBI’s best profiler, Karen Vail, will need to catch the killer before it’s too late.
